Sources told us she cares more about the spit tapes, and not enough about the album. “Man I can’t let these dudes think they got one up on me” she chuckles. “Plus it keeps me grounded, on my toes, and intouch with the streets and the peeps in them”.

Every now and then, and we do mean that literally. A movement comes along and you just know somethings about to go down in the music industry. Enter The Offbrand. Two teenaged lyricist with real… dare we say hip hop talent. It really baffles the mind because they’re not old enough to remember when there was such a thing, this hip hop. They came up in a time where the art form is on it’s way out. Or as Nas put it, “Hip Hop Is Dead”. Now it’s just about commercialism, rims, rides, and cribs, clubs, drugs and half-naked video chicks.

The Offbrand, says Their drive comes from living in project housing for 13-14 years of their young lives. Seeing only negative role- models. One member Yada has a very animated but different approach to hip hop. “I’m only 14 and i’ve lived in three or four different states, been in five or six different schools. Make new friends then bam!… time to move again! So I stopped tryin’ to make friends”! He laughs. “I made friends with my music. That way I can carry it with me”.
Check-out The Offbrand on Myspace or a nibble of their first single next month right here @ opmmusicwerx.com as our featured Artist of the Month

Even though the 16queen MsFortune is only 14 years old. Her first business venture has been a long time in the making. Well it seems that way to her. “Yeah man this is hard work. My manager has me reading all these books in my spare time. All types of music business stuff, from publishing to points and royalties. We’re (herself and others signed to OPM Music Werx) asked out of the blue what certain terms mean. Like I could be in the booth and Numbas will say, “What are mechanical royalties?” And he really wants an answer! And we can’t start til I answer that.

Seems harsh on a teenager right? Not to 17 year old Chronic who also has his upstart indie label The Establishment Music Corp signed to OPM. “Well if he’s not gonna teach us, then who? And if not now then when?” Fortune agrees “Yeah I’d rather learn from somebody who cares than somebody who might gain something off a mistake I might make. We have to do it. Labels won’t touch us cause we’re so young and we don’t really make cliche comercial music. Plus I don’t really like chicken soup. That statement followed by her distinctive devious giggle. Nah, just playin’. They gotta be good at what they do, they’re chartin’ right? We want to stay indie for as long as we can though. Right now we’re lookin’ for sponsers, investors or venture capitolist…. See what you learn reading? I don’t know how long it’ll take but I do know a little knowledge can’t kill you, but it’ll make you stronger. Did I just mix two sayings?
Fortune’s first project is due out sometime this year.

-Chicago- We had to find out the whats and whys on Chronic Agression. “I wanted to call the album The Come Up. But of course it got vetoed, he vetos everything! Says Chronic Agression 17 year old lyricist about his manager Chalie Numbas. He says I need a signature album for my first album. So Numbas thinks it should be self titled “Chronic Agression”. But I don’t give up easy so it’s subtitlted “The Come Up”.

Why the name Chronic Agression? When people hear the word chronic they automatically thinks of weed. Because that’s what the business is right now. Seems like everybody blaze. Do you? Nah, it ain’t for me. I don’t judge though. Anyway, my name means constant, Chronic. Agression I’m very agressive. That’s my writing style, my nature. It’s simple, it ain’t even complicated. It’s checkers not chess”. Laughing at himself.

-Chicago- We caught up with MsFortune, the 14 year old self proclaimed 16Queen, at a studio session in the Windy City. It was a little rough but we found her. We want to know what the hold-up is on this debut album. An unusually tired somber MsFortune told us, “I’m glad!” I need this time for school. You know get to the next level.” It’s her first year of high school. She also said. “Plus I don’t have all the tracks I need. It’s a couple producers I gotta get on this album. My homeboy Telly from the Glass City. He’s nice. And I gotta get Gutta! Speaking on the ill, grimey beatsmith Gutta Dave outta Toledo, Oh. “Every time I here a Gutta track I start spit’n over whatever little break I hear. Sometimes i’ll just keep replaying the intro or the end of the track”. She laughs. ” That dude is sweet!”

When asked if there’s a prominant release date she just nods her head in uncertainty. “Yeah, but I don’t know man fall 2007 I think. My manager Chalie Numbas has been traveling tour managing so….That’s why we’re recording out here (Chicago) right now trying to keep up with this dude. He just tells me to be patient, we can drop this album when we’re ready….”You can do that when you’re independant”. She mimics Numbas deep voice. Then leaves us with this. “Whenever we drop it…It’s about to change the way y’all look at hip hop, watch!”
