Accessorize: Tomoka’s Twists

Tomoka’s Twists
Okay, so I am very excited!! I ordered my first Tomoka’s Twists. I cannot wait until they arrive. My hair has been locked for 16 months. (I used the simple twist-around-the-finger method to start them.) They are small, about the size of Sisterlocks, but I did them myself.
Here is a semi-back view of my locs @ 16 months, before the retwist. The curls were loosening up still from a perm rod set. I use the grey rods most of the time, and I usually set my locs after a shampoo and condition treatment. If I know I am not going to get to the retwist before my new growth has a party on my head, I will set my hair at the end of the month; but if I have the time, I will shampoo, retwist and set all in about a two day period. Recently I set my hair dry and loose at night and the look still lasted over two weeks! I flipped up the front and rolled the ends of the rest of my hair. It had such body and fullness. (I love the fullness more than the length, although it is getting there.) And I LOVE accessories!!!! Here I am in Twiggies by Tomokas Twists with earrings and again in S-Luxurious Tomoka’s Twists. I love them!
So I was on a forum called Lockitup. I read the posts and threads for a couple of weeks before I became more active in the group. I had seen Tomoka’s Twists before, and I was so inspired by them. In the group, however, I actually got a chance to “meet” her, and what a joy she is! She is also a Sisterlocks consultant. Her enthusiasm for natural hair, Sisterlocks, and Tomoka’s Twists was so infectious that I got the bug, too.
It is so wonderful to see so many people, male and female, come together and share their experiences with natural hair, and actually taking the journey to loc their hair. It is a group that is positive, informative and uplifting all at once.
What I love about Tomoka’s Twists is the designer herself, Carmen, who was inspired by her own experience to create something that reflects the joy, beauty and confidence of natural hair. The twists are not just for long hair or locked hair. They can be used on any texture of hair and even for children!! From elegant beads to whimsical ones, she has them all, and what isn’t seen, she can find. And they are reasonable! Buy them here!
“The first thing I thought after my family said ‘SELL THEM‘ was ‘they’re not going to wear them’. The comeback – ‘If you don’t sell them, no one will wear them.’”- Carmen, creator/designer of Tomoka’s Twists

Aren’t they beautiful?
